The City Of Graffiti (ラクガキの町 Rakugaki no machi) is the 26th chapter in the Gachiakuta manga series written and illustrated by Kei Urana. It was published in the 40th Weekly Shōnen Magazine issue on August 31st, 2022.

Summary[]

The team quickly drive by some graffiti artists while heading to their location. Rudo is fascinated upon seeing the place known as Canvas Town. After stopping and getting out the car, Rudo asks Tamzy if all the cities are shaped like this one. Tamzy explains that the dome shape protects from the trash that the heavens throw. He continues saying that many who are forced to live in the open and are unable to live in the city are crushed by the “rain of trash”.

As they approach the entrance of the city, there is a bit of a commotion. Two people are trying to walk through the open doorway, but there seems to be an invisible blockade preventing them from entering. While they push and shove trying to get through, Engine and the others walk through easily. Engine tells Rudo to follow suit and explains that they’re free to go in and out of the city as long as they don’t have weird intentions.

Now inside the city, Rudo is amazed at the art covering all the walls and buildings. It’s explained that not everyone was keen on graffiti being all over the place. That is why they built Canvas Town to allow people to draw and paint freely. Riyou chimes in saying the town used to be called the City of Arts according to Corvus. Rudo asks Engine if they just came here to look at art. Engine tells him they’re here to meet a giver who comes from a lineage of artists in the city. This giver’s ability puts a “talisman” on things he paints. The ability instills feeling into these things that are painted. The two men who couldn't enter the town earlier were stopped by this ability. Since it covers the outside walls, the “charm” prevents those with ill intentions from getting in. Engine says that this type of ability is pretty rare but it has been passed down through generations.

While they continue walking, suddenly, someone runs into Engine and falls to the ground. As he apologizes, the girl looks up at him with tears in her eyes then runs away without a word. Riyou reprimands Engine for making the girl cry as a man steps around the corner. He says that the janitors arrived sooner than he anticipated. Engine recognizes the man as Mayor and tells him they’re looking to get a talisman again from the giver. After a pause, the Mayor says that he died this morning.

Engine stares down at the person lying on a bed covered in a cloth. Visibly shaken, he questions if this is real. The mayor explains that Gob wasn't content staying in the safe zone and went to the contaminated zone to draw. This ultimately lead to body contamination after removing his mask many times. The mayor trails off painfully that after all the warnings to wear his mask it ended up this way. Engine kneels beside the bed as Rudo watches from behind. Tamzy tells Rudo not to let it get to him since it's a common cause of death here. The mayor stands up saying that they've already decided who will inherit the Jinki. It will be “The Heiress” who was the girl they ran into earlier, but there seems to be a problem.
