Introduction

"I reject everything you've said. And I embrace everything you reject. Because of that... I'll beat the shit out of you."

— Rudo, Gachiakuta, Chapter 16

Rudo Surebrec (ルド Rudo) is the main protagonist of the Gachiakuta series. He is the foster son of Regto and originally lived in the slums before he was accused of murder and sentenced to the Abyss.

He later joins the Akuta faction of the Cleaners.

Appearance[]

Rudo is a boy with large eyes and distinctive red irises as well as thick, messy, ash blonde hair with dark gray tips. Like most of the people in the slum, all of his garments are dirty and worn out. His clothing consists of a loose vest with a square neck and vertical stripe patterns; over it he wears a large hoodie that has characteristic shide-like patterns running down the middle; he wears loose pants and over it fastens a band of thick fabric around the lower shins and ankles that have a vertical stripe pattern.

Rudo's Hands - Chapter 1

Due to his parents abuse during his childhood, Rudo's hands were heavily scarred; from the tips of his fingers to his elbows, ring-like patterns form within the concentric growths of the damaged bands of skin. He wears large gloves with a ring in the center, given to him by Regto, over bandages which soothes excruciating pain from the scars and also allowed him to escape disgusted gazes from people. He seems to take them off only when his hands are being tended by Regto.[1]

Personality[]

As a result of being physically abused and eventually abandoned by his parents, Rudo has become an emotionally closed off and introverted person, holding an intense pain and anger that would never stop burning inside him. Due to being the son of murderers, he's been isolated at a very early age, with the only people who do not see him as a bad person being Regto and Chiwa.

Rudo has an obsession with the trash that people throw away, often taking worthless things and repairing them so they can once again fulfill their function.

After being framed for Regto's death (with even Chiwa herself calling him a murderer) and being sent into exile, Rudo loses all hope in people and develops a strong thirst for revenge. He makes an oath that he will return to Heaven, kill every single one of the Celestials, and make them regret calling him filthy before throwing him away into the Abyss.

Due to his past, Rudo has major trust issues and does not want to befriend people from the Abyss. At first, he makes it clear that he is only willing to cooperate with them in order to achieve his goal of returning to Heaven. However, Rudo slowly begins to develop bonds with the people he's met in the Abyss, such as the Cleaners.

According to Semiu, Rudo has something comparable to a curse inside of himself. This "curse", fueled by hatred, is constantly growing within him due to all the recent events. This is seen most clearly when, after being released from Amo's ability, he immediately begins to beat Amo up in retaliation.

Abilities[]

  • 3RS: Rudo's Watchman Series gloves hold immense Thought and have given him the unqiue ability to create Jinkis from any trash he finds. Upon its use, the higher level jinki crumbles away due to being successfully used.

Relationships[]

Regto[]

At some point before the start of the story Rudo's father was thrown into the Abyss and was abandoned as a kid. Then he met Regto and was taken in, Regto filled the position of a foster parent ever since. Though he has no small familial affection towards Regto, Rudo also feels he is beholden to Regto for raising him. Consequently, Rudo goes around the city to hunt for salvageable trash and earn money to support the family despite Regto disagreeing with his criminal methods. However, after Regto was murdered by an unknown assailant he is seen by the public as Regto's murderer.

Chiwa[]

Rudo had a crush on Chiwa, and Chiwa seemed to show signs to reciprocating his feelings. However, when Rudo was convicted of Regto's murder and he turns to her for her support against the claims, he sees Chiwa losing her trust in him and believes him to be a murderer. From that moment on, their special connection was lost and apparently she is now also one of the people Rudo vows to "send to hell".[1]

Engine[]

Rudo met Engine right after falling into the abyss, Engine was amused by seeing how he would manage to escape from a bunch of slave traders, after that incident he took Rudo with him and made him a new member of the Janitors from the abyss. Since then, they have a close relationship, with Engine acting as Rudo's mentor and an older brother figure often giving him reassurance, giving Rudo some advice about his position and how to use his powers as a giver. Right after beating up Amo; Rudo and Engine share an honest and deep talk in which Rudo opens up and confesses his fear of not being capable of changing as a person, and Engine gives him advice and his support, offering his help to make him grow and mature.

Zanka Nijik[]

At first Zanka greatly disliked Rudo because he thought he was stealing his Jinki. The two-show annoyance towards each other, specifically Zanka, and he refers to him as ill mannered. This dislike is further fueled by Rudo’s attempts to smile at Zanka; which he assumes that Rudo is mocking him, and Zanka shows both disgust and anxiousness when Rudo chases him with a plunger. However, both parties show some level of concern during their fight with Jabber and have some level of acknowledgment for each other aside from their actual opinions.

Trivia[]
